Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Ruth attended the school in Boston's poorest tenement area. She left the school she was attending after only two years to pursue acting as a profession. This was not an easy path to follow. Although she got an opportunity at a theatre in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine however, there were no theatre opportunities that came her way. Then in NYC, she volunteered at a bar, as the check-in lady before resigning after a few months and moving to Boston. In Boston, she earned a living as an usherette by during the day and then at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first acting job. In addition, she was a drama student and ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
